How do I try the dashboard with sample data?

PostSnag's See sample data link loads demo profiles and posts into your dashboard so you can explore before capturing anything.

PostSnag lets you try the full dashboard before you capture a single post. On a brand-new account, click See sample data and PostSnag loads a set of demo profiles and posts so you can see how the Profiles library and Analytics look and behave with real content in them, before deciding to install the extension.

Where to find it

A brand-new account with nothing captured yet sees a Getting started panel on the Profiles page instead of an empty grid. The panel walks you through the real setup: heading "Let's snag your first profile," with three numbered steps (add the Chrome extension, open any profile or group, then come back to the dashboard), buttons for Add PostSnag to Chrome and Already added it, and a short tutorial video captioned "Watch the 90-second walkthrough."

Below all of that sits a separate text link: See sample data. Click it to skip ahead and explore the dashboard without touching the extension first.

What loading sample data does

Once you click See sample data, PostSnag fills your Profiles library with demo profiles and posts, so pages that read from that library stop looking empty:

  • Profiles shows a full grid of demo profile cards, the same layout you'd see with your own captures.

  • Analytics shows populated KPIs, a Top performing posts list, and the rest of its charts, instead of the "light up after your first capture" message, since it's built from whatever is in your library.

  • Bookmarks and Folders will reflect whatever, if anything, is bookmarked or folder-organized in the demo set. Since both of those are built around content you save yourself, don't expect them to be as full as Profiles or Analytics; sample data is mainly there to show you the library and its numbers.

The Profiles page also shows a clear banner while sample data is loaded: "You're viewing sample data. This is what your library looks like once you start capturing." Treat that banner as your reminder that nothing on screen came from your own Facebook activity yet.

Discovery works differently: it's a shared community feed shown to every account, sample data or not, so you'll see real posts there regardless of whether you've loaded demo data or captured anything yourself.

Clearing sample data

When you're ready to move on, click Clear sample data in that same banner on the Profiles page. This removes the demo profiles and posts entirely, so your dashboard goes back to empty and ready for your own captures.

Clearing doesn't happen automatically. If you install the extension and capture a real profile while sample data is still loaded, the demo content doesn't get pushed out on its own; you need to clear it yourself.

Loading it again later

The Getting started panel, and the See sample data link inside it, only show up when your library has zero real profiles. Once you clear sample data, as long as you haven't captured anything real yet, the panel reappears and you can load the demo set again for another look.

Common questions

Do I need an account to see sample data?
Yes. Sample data loads inside your PostSnag dashboard, so you need to sign in or create a free account first. There's no public demo outside of a logged-in dashboard.

Does sample data count against my Free plan limits?
No. Sample data is separate from your own captures and doesn't use any of your weekly profile scans or per-profile post caps.

Will sample data clear itself once I start capturing real profiles?
No. It stays loaded until you click Clear sample data yourself, even after you've captured something real. Clear it manually once you're ready to look at your own data cleanly.

Can I load sample data again after clearing it?
Yes, as long as your library is back to zero real profiles. The Getting started panel and its See sample data link reappear whenever that's the case.

Does sample data show up in Discovery too?
No. Discovery is a shared community feed that already shows real posts to every account, whether or not you've loaded demo data.
