What do the key PostSnag terms mean? (Glossary)

PostSnag uses a specific set of terms across its extension and dashboard. This glossary defines each one in plain language, grouped by where you'll encounter it, from capturing on Facebook to organizing, comparing, and exporting in your dashboard.

Extension and capture terms

Capture

To capture a post means PostSnag reads its data (post type, engagement, date, caption, and media) from your screen as you scroll, and saves it to your browser. For a video or reel, that includes the real playable video file and a cover image, not just a thumbnail. Nothing reaches your dashboard until you export.

Scan

One pass of capturing a profile, Page, or group as you scroll it. There are two kinds: a profile scan (a profile, a Page, or a member's profile opened from inside a group) and a group scan (scrolling a whole group's own feed), each counting separately toward the Free plan's limits, unlimited on Pro and Lifetime.

The PostSnag panel

The interface that opens on Facebook profiles, Pages, and groups when you're signed in, built directly into the page rather than Chrome's built-in side panel. It shows a live Collected count of what it's captured this session, a status pill reading Capturing (actively reading the page) or Synced (settled and finished for now), free-plan notices when they apply, and the Export To Dashboard button.

Dashboard terms

PostSnag's left-hand sidebar has nine areas: Overview, Profiles, Posts, Groups, Compare, Discovery, Bookmarks, Folders, and a Recent scans list. There's no standalone Analytics item; analytics live inside Overview and inside each profile's own Analytics tab.

Overview

Your dashboard's home screen and the first thing you see after signing in. Nine stat tiles (like top creator and best time to post), two leaderboards, library-wide charts, a Top posts list, and a Biggest groups list, rolled up from everything you've captured.

Profile

A personal Facebook profile, including a creator account (a personal profile switched into Facebook's professional mode). The Profiles page lists your full roster.

Page

A Facebook Page, typically run by a business, brand, or organization. PostSnag treats a Page the same way it treats a profile.

Group

A Facebook Group. PostSnag adds a group to your dashboard the first time you capture inside it and export, either by scrolling the group's own feed (every member who posts) or by opening one member's profile from inside it (just that person). Group posts stay tagged and kept apart from a person's personal profile posts.

Posts (page)

The dashboard's global command center: every post you've captured, from every profile and every group, in one place. Sort by most likes, comments, shares, or biggest outlier; filter to All, Top, or Outlier; search; filter by creator; and multi-select for bulk export.

Compare

A dashboard page that lines up to three of your captured profiles side by side: an At-a-glance table with the leader highlighted on each row, plus matching breakdown charts for each profile.

Discovery

A pattern engine over the creators you track, not a shared feed. Discovery groups the captions in your own library into named patterns (like "Reaction In A Few Words"), each with a description, an average performance multiplier, and a post count, with a Recent versus Trending toggle. It looks only at your own tracked profiles and groups, never at other PostSnag accounts. Available on Pro and Lifetime; not included on the Free plan.

Outlier

A post that beat its own creator's typical performance, flagged as a multiple, like "4x their typical post." Always relative to that one creator's own history, never a fixed reaction count and never a comparison against other creators. PostSnag does not use "top 1%" for this.

Recent scans

A sidebar list of the profiles and groups you've scanned most recently. Hovering a row gives two options: remove from recents (clears it from the list, keeps the data) or delete (removes it and everything captured with it).

Bookmarks

A way to save a post, a profile, or a whole group so you can find it again quickly, browsable by Posts, Profiles, and By group tabs. Never called "boards."

Folders

Named collections you create to group saved posts together. Create, rename, and delete them any time, up to 10 folders per account.

Analytics

No longer a standalone sidebar item. Library-wide analytics live on Overview; a single profile's or group's own analytics (content mix, posting activity, best time to post, and more) live on its own Analytics tab.

Export terms

Export To Dashboard vs. exporting a file

Two different things that both use the word "export." Export To Dashboard, a button in the extension panel, syncs posts you've captured locally up to your dashboard. Exporting a file happens in the dashboard, where you download a file of a profile's, group's, or your whole library's posts. You always send posts to the dashboard first, then export a file from there if you want one.

The four export formats

Data as Markdown (.md), a readable document for an AI tool; Data as CSV (.csv), the same data as a spreadsheet; Media only (.zip), the real video, reel, and image files, not thumbnails or links; Data plus media (.zip), both together in one folder. Export everything at your current scope with the Export dropdown, or tick individual posts with multi-select. Big exports run in the background and notify you in-app and by email.

Plan and account terms

Free scan limit

The Free plan's caps: 3 profile scans total, with no weekly reset (up to 30 posts saved per profile on each scan), and group scanning is also limited on Free, unlimited on Pro and Lifetime.

PostSnag account

Your login for the extension and dashboard, created with an email and password or with Continue with Google, completely separate from your Facebook login.

Common questions

Is "Export To Dashboard" the same as exporting a file?

No. Export To Dashboard syncs captured posts to your dashboard. Exporting a file is a separate step where you download one of PostSnag's four formats from the dashboard.

Is Discovery a shared feed of everyone's posts?

No. Discovery is built entirely from the creators and groups you personally track, not a feed shared across PostSnag accounts.

Does PostSnag still call a standout post "top 1%"?

No. The current term is "outlier," shown as a multiple against that creator's own typical post, like "4x their typical post," not a percentile.

What's the difference between Bookmarks and Folders?

Bookmarks save a post, a profile, or a whole group for quick access. Folders are named collections you build yourself to group saved posts together.
