What happens to my captured data if I downgrade or cancel?
Posts you've already captured stay in your PostSnag account after you downgrade or cancel. Free's weekly limits apply to new activity going forward.

If you downgrade or cancel PostSnag, the posts you've already captured stay in your account. Downgrading changes what you can capture and access going forward; it does not delete or hide anything you've already saved.
Cancelling and downgrading aren't quite the same action: cancelling stops your subscription from renewing, and downgrading to Free is what happens once that paid period runs out. Either way, here's exactly what stays, what changes, and what to expect.
What stays exactly the same
Every captured post, across your Profiles library, still shows up exactly as it did before.
Bookmarks you've saved, both posts and profiles.
Folders you've created, along with everything added to them.
Exporting. The Export menu has three options: Download data for AI (a Markdown file and a CSV file together), Download media for AI (a .zip of the images and videos), and Download Data & Media for AI (a .zip with both). Download media for AI and Download Data & Media for AI keep working on Free, covering whatever's unlocked in your dashboard. Download data for AI needs Pro or Lifetime again once you're back on Free.
Nothing about downgrading or cancelling deletes captured data. It changes what happens with new activity from that point forward.
What changes going forward
On the Free plan you get 3 profile scans and 2 group scans in any rolling 7-day window, and each scan previews the first 30 posts in your dashboard. Once you're back on Free, those weekly limits apply to any new scanning you do. For example, if you tracked a profile closely on Pro or Lifetime and built up 300 saved posts, those 300 stay exactly where they are; the 30-post preview only decides what you can currently see, not what's stored. Re-scanning that same profile while back on Free previews the first 30 posts as usual; the rest of what's already saved sits locked behind an upgrade wall again, the same as it would for any other profile past the Free preview. Scan a brand-new profile or group beyond that week's allowance and it's saved too, but locked entirely until you upgrade again.
Does Discovery, PostSnag MCP, Analytics, Bookmarks, or Folders stop working?
Analytics, Bookmarks, and Folders keep working exactly the same after you downgrade or cancel; none of those are gated by plan. Discovery and PostSnag MCP are the exceptions: both are Pro and Lifetime features, not available on Free, so once your account is back on Free, Discovery and PostSnag MCP are no longer accessible until you upgrade again. PostSnag MCP is included with Pro and Lifetime. Neither Discovery's data nor your MCP-connected library actually changes when you downgrade: Discovery works from the same creators and groups you personally track, and the posts behind it are the same captured posts covered above, so upgrading again picks Discovery back up from your existing library, not from scratch. Downgrading doesn't touch anything you've already captured either way; it only limits new capturing (the weekly scan limits and posts per profile going forward) and, specifically for Discovery and PostSnag MCP, whether you can open or use them at all. See What do PostSnag's plans include, and what are the limits? for the full breakdown of what's actually gated by plan versus what's open to everyone, and Does Discovery share my captured data with other PostSnag users? for how Discovery's library works.
When the change actually happens
If you cancel, you keep full paid access through the end of the period you already paid for. Once that period ends, your account reverts to Free automatically, no separate action needed. Downgrading isn't a self-service button; it's simply what happens after a cancelled subscription's paid period runs out. If you want to move to Free sooner than that, email support@postsnag.com.
If you upgrade again later
Nothing needs to be redone. Whatever you've captured stays synced to your dashboard the whole time, on Free or on a paid plan; your plan only decides how much of it you can currently see. Upgrading again unlocks everything already in your dashboard at once. No rescan, no re-export. See What's included in the Free plan? for exactly how the preview and the lock work.
Questions about specific data
For anything about your specific account or captured data that this general policy doesn't cover, email support@postsnag.com.
Common questions
Do I lose my captured posts if I cancel or downgrade?
No. Posts you've already captured and sent to your dashboard stay in your account.
Can I still export after downgrading to Free?
Download media for AI and Download Data & Media for AI still work on Free, covering whatever's unlocked in your dashboard. Download data for AI needs Pro or Lifetime again.
Can I still capture new posts on the Free plan after downgrading?
Yes, within Free's weekly limits: 3 profile scans and 2 group scans in any rolling 7-day window, 30 posts previewed per scan.
Does downgrading turn off Discovery, PostSnag MCP, Analytics, Bookmarks, or Folders?
Analytics, Bookmarks, and Folders stay available either way. Discovery and PostSnag MCP are the exceptions: both need Pro or Lifetime, so downgrading to Free turns off access to Discovery and PostSnag MCP specifically until you upgrade again.
Does downgrading delete my Folders or Bookmarks?
No. Folders and Bookmarks you've already created stay in your account after downgrading.
