PostSnag MCP isn't answering. What do I check?

If PostSnag MCP won't connect, or your AI can't find an answer, it's almost always one of the causes below. Work down the list; most of these take under a minute to fix.

Check these first

  1. You're on the Free plan. PostSnag MCP is included with Pro and Lifetime. On a Free account, every question comes back with the same message: "The PostSnag MCP connector is available to Pro and Lifetime members only. Please upgrade your account at https://postsnag.com to connect Claude, ChatGPT, or Perplexity." Upgrade at postsnag.com, then ask again.

  2. Your link isn't right. The PostSnag MCP connector link is: https://api.postsnag.com/mcp. A link with any other host will not connect. Copy it fresh from the MCP page in your dashboard and paste it in again.

  3. ChatGPT's Developer mode is off, or the connector was never named. ChatGPT needs Developer mode turned on before it accepts a custom connector, and it asks you to name the connector when you add it. Go to Settings, then Connectors, then Advanced, turn Developer mode on, and add PostSnag as a new app with the link above.

  4. Perplexity needs a paid plan on their side. Perplexity's custom remote connectors need Perplexity Pro or Enterprise. That's Perplexity's own rule, not PostSnag's, and it can change; check your Perplexity plan if the connector won't add there.

  5. You were asked to sign in to PostSnag again. A connection you keep using stays signed in. If you have not used the connection for 7 days, the platform asks you to sign in to PostSnag again before it keeps answering. Sign in, and the connection is back.

  6. You got "Rate limit exceeded." The exact message is: "Rate limit exceeded. Please wait 60 seconds before making another request." PostSnag MCP answers up to 30 questions a minute per connection. Wait a minute, then ask again.

  7. The answer says it can't find a profile or group. That creator or group isn't in your library yet. Capture it with the extension and click Export To Dashboard, or ask by name so PostSnag MCP searches what the wider PostSnag community has captured.

  8. It answered from old numbers. Engagement is a snapshot from when you captured or last scanned that profile or group, not a live number. Re-scan it to refresh what PostSnag MCP can see.

  9. The AI tried to browse Facebook or start a capture, and couldn't. PostSnag MCP can't do either. It only reads your captured library. Capturing still happens in the extension, while you're scrolling a profile or group yourself.

Disconnect and reconnect

If none of that fixes it, remove the connector and add it back.

  1. Remove the connector in the platform: Open its connector settings and delete PostSnag. Nothing changes in your PostSnag account when you do this.

  2. Add it again: Use the same link, https://api.postsnag.com/mcp, and follow the setup steps again.

Common questions

Does disconnecting PostSnag MCP delete anything in my library?

No. Disconnecting only removes the connector from that platform. Your captured profiles, posts, and groups stay exactly where they are.

Why does PostSnag MCP ask me to sign in again?

A connection you keep using stays signed in. If you have not used the connection for 7 days, the platform asks you to sign in to PostSnag again before it will keep answering.

How do I know the connector link I pasted in is right?

It's always https://api.postsnag.com/mcp. Compare it character for character against whatever you pasted in.
