How do I connect PostSnag to ChatGPT?

Connect PostSnag to ChatGPT through Developer mode and a custom connector, then ask ChatGPT about your captured library without leaving the chat.

PostSnag connects to ChatGPT as a custom connector, so you can ask ChatGPT about any profile, post, or group you've already captured without leaving the chat.

Before you start

  • PostSnag MCP is included with Pro and Lifetime. A Free account can add the connector, but every question comes back asking you to upgrade instead of an answer.

  • Your connector link, ready to copy:

    https://api.postsnag.com/mcp

  • Sign in to app.postsnag.com in the same browser first. ChatGPT sends you to a PostSnag sign-in screen partway through, and being signed in already makes that step instant.

  • You've captured at least one profile, post, or group. The connector reads your PostSnag library; with nothing captured yet, there's nothing for it to answer from.

Connecting PostSnag MCP to ChatGPT

  1. Open Connectors in ChatGPT: go to Settings, then Connectors, then Advanced. Or open this link: https://chatgpt.com/#settings/Connectors/Advanced

  2. Turn on Developer mode: one toggle, near the top of the Advanced screen.

  3. Add a new app: name it PostSnag.

  4. Paste your MCP link: drop it into the connection field.

    https://api.postsnag.com/mcp

  5. Submit: leave Authentication set to OAuth and submit.

Important Note: Custom connectors need a paid ChatGPT plan. That's OpenAI's rule, not PostSnag's, and it applies no matter which PostSnag plan you're on.

Important Note: PostSnag MCP also works in Codex, using this same link.

Signing in to PostSnag

If you're already signed in to app.postsnag.com in that browser, ChatGPT sends you straight back with nothing to click. If you're not signed in, PostSnag's own sign-in screen opens first: sign in with your email and password or Google, and you land back in ChatGPT, connected. There's no key to create or paste anywhere in this flow, and PostSnag never touches your Facebook login.

Your first questions

Once it's connected, type a plain question straight into ChatGPT. A few to try first:

  • "Which of my captured posts got the most comments last month?"

  • "Summarize everything I've captured from the group I'm tracking."

  • "What's in my swipe file folder, and which post did best?"

  • "How many groups am I tracking, and what's in each one?"

  • "Rank my best-performing posts by shares."

Checking it worked

Ask ChatGPT: "How many posts have I captured?"

On Pro or Lifetime, you get a real number back, pulled straight from your own library. That count matches what you'd see on Posts inside your dashboard, since the connector reads the same library. On the Free plan, ChatGPT relays this message instead:

"The PostSnag MCP connector is available to Pro and Lifetime members only. Please upgrade your account at https://postsnag.com to connect Claude, ChatGPT, or Perplexity."

Disconnecting

Remove PostSnag inside ChatGPT's own Connectors settings, and the connection stops right away. Nothing changes inside PostSnag: your library, your scans, and your account stay exactly as they were. You won't lose anything you've already asked about; disconnecting just stops ChatGPT from answering new questions until you reconnect. Reconnect any time with the same link:

Common questions

Where do I find connectors in ChatGPT?

Settings, then Connectors, then Advanced, where you turn Developer mode on. Once that's on, add a new app, name it PostSnag, and paste the link into the connection field. It runs a couple of steps longer than Claude's, because ChatGPT asks for a name before the link.

Do I need a paid ChatGPT plan?

Yes, on ChatGPT's side: custom connectors are a paid-plan feature there. Your PostSnag plan is separate. PostSnag MCP is included with Pro and Lifetime.

Does connecting this give ChatGPT my Facebook login?

No. PostSnag never holds your Facebook password, and the connector only exposes what you've already captured to your PostSnag library. Your Facebook session stays in your own browser, where the extension uses it.

Can ChatGPT go capture something new for me?

No. The connector reads your captured library; it has no Facebook access of its own. Capturing still happens in the Chrome extension while you scroll.

Do I need to reconnect after upgrading from Free to Pro?

No. The connector doesn't check your plan when you add it, only when you ask a question. Upgrade your PostSnag plan and your next question in ChatGPT works, with nothing to reconnect.
