How do I export a Facebook Group's posts?

Open a group's detail page in your dashboard and use Export to download its captured posts as Markdown, CSV, media only, or data plus media, all scoped to just that group.

PostSnag exports a Facebook Group's posts in four formats: data as Markdown, data as CSV, data plus media in a single .zip, or media only. Open the group's detail page in your dashboard and use Export to download whichever one you need, scoped to just that group.

Export a Group's posts

Open Groups in your dashboard sidebar.
Click into the group whose posts you want.
Click Export near the top of the group's detail page.
Choose a format: Data as Markdown, Data as CSV, Data + media (.zip), or Media only (.zip).
The file downloads to your browser's normal downloads location, named after the group. Large exports, especially media, run in the background and notify you in-app and by email when they're ready, so you can keep working instead of waiting on the tab.

Choose your format

Data as Markdown: clean, readable text, built to paste straight into ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini.
Data as CSV: the same post data as a spreadsheet, ready to sort and filter, and just as AI-ready.
Media only (.zip): the actual videos, reels, images, and album photos captured from the group, as real files.
Data + media (.zip): both together in one folder, so an AI can read the captions and watch the videos.

Whichever format you choose, video and reel captures include the real playable video file and a cover image, not just a thumbnail, along with the video's duration.

Two ways to export a group's posts

The Export button on the group's detail page pulls everything captured from that group, in the format you pick.
Multi-select on the group's Posts tab lets you tick specific posts instead. A selection bar appears at the bottom with Bookmark, Add to folder, and all four export formats, so you export only the posts you tapped rather than the whole group.

What's in the file

Markdown and CSV exports include, per post: the author and username, the post's date, its type (text, photo, video, reel, album, or link), reactions, comments, shares, the caption text, and a direct link back to the post on Facebook.

The reactions figure is a single total, not a breakdown by like, love, haha, wow, sad, and angry. Facebook only reliably exposes a couple of reaction types at a time, so PostSnag exports the combined total in the file. The full reaction breakdown is still visible in the app itself, on a post's card and in the group's Analytics tab, just not inside the exported file.

The file includes every post PostSnag has captured for that group unless you used multi-select to narrow it down first.

When the Export button is disabled

If a group has no captured posts yet, the Export button is disabled with a message explaining there's nothing to export. Capture at least one post from that group first, either by scrolling its feed or capturing a member from inside it, then send it to your dashboard. See How do I capture posts from a Facebook Group?.

Export vs Export To Dashboard: two different things

PostSnag uses the word "export" for two different actions, worth keeping straight:

Export, the button on a group's detail page, or the Export dropdown on a profile page or the global Posts view, downloads a file of posts already sitting in your dashboard, in any of the four formats. It's a file download.
Export To Dashboard, the button in the extension panel, is what gets posts into your dashboard in the first place, by sending what you captured while scrolling Facebook.

You always capture and send posts to your dashboard with Export To Dashboard first. Downloading a group's file with Export is a later, optional step you can take anytime once its posts are already there, and you can do it again, in any format, as many times as you like.
