Does PostSnag work in Edge, Brave, Arc, and other browsers?

PostSnag works in any Chromium browser that supports Chrome Web Store extensions, like Edge, Brave, and Arc. It doesn't work in Firefox or Safari.

PostSnag works in Chrome and in any other Chromium-based browser that can install Chrome Web Store extensions, including Microsoft Edge, Brave, Arc, Opera, and Vivaldi. It installs and captures the same way in each of them. It doesn't currently work in Firefox or Safari, or in any mobile browser.

Chrome is the only browser PostSnag is built and tested against day to day, but because the other Chromium browsers share the same extension platform, the same Chrome Web Store package runs on all of them without changes.

Why Chromium browsers work

Edge, Brave, Arc, Opera, Vivaldi, and ChromeOS itself are all built on the Chromium engine and support the same Manifest V3 extension platform Chrome does. Each of them can install extensions directly from the Chrome Web Store, which is exactly how PostSnag is packaged and distributed. That means PostSnag doesn't need a separate version for each browser; one Chrome Web Store listing covers all of them.

These other browsers aren't officially tested the way Chrome is. If anything ever looks off in one of them, such as the panel rendering strangely or the icon not behaving as expected, reproducing it in Chrome is the fastest way to tell whether it's a browser quirk or something worth reporting to support@postsnag.com.

Supported browsers

  • Google Chrome: the primary browser PostSnag is built and tested against.

  • Microsoft Edge: installs straight from the Chrome Web Store. Edge may show a one-time confirmation before allowing an extension from outside its default store; approve it to continue.

  • Brave: same Chromium base as Chrome, installs the same way.

  • Arc: built on Chromium, supports Chrome Web Store extensions the same way.

  • Opera: Chromium-based. Opera also has its own add-ons store, but the Chrome Web Store install still works.

  • Vivaldi: Chromium-based, installs the same way.

  • ChromeOS (Chromebooks): a Chromebook runs Chrome itself, so PostSnag installs and captures the same way it would on a Chrome desktop or laptop.

Installing PostSnag in another Chromium browser

  1. Open your browser and go to the Chrome Web Store listing: chromewebstore.google.com/detail/postsnag/mgaicfnchelmoancalnebajninjeiphl.

  2. Click Add to Chrome. The button keeps this exact label even outside Chrome itself, since it's the Chrome Web Store's own button.

  3. Some browsers, Edge for example, may show a one-time confirmation before allowing an extension from outside their default store. Approve it to continue.

  4. Confirm the permissions prompt, then pin PostSnag to your toolbar the same way you would in Chrome.

Firefox and Safari

Not supported today, and there's a structural reason why. Firefox and Safari use their own separate extension formats and their own stores, Firefox's add-ons store and Safari's own extension system, completely apart from the Chrome Web Store PostSnag is built and published on. That's a platform difference, not a decision to leave anyone out.

If Firefox or Safari is your everyday browser, the simplest path is to install a Chromium browser like Chrome, Edge, or Brave just for capturing on Facebook with PostSnag, and keep using your regular browser for everything else. Your PostSnag dashboard itself, at app.postsnag.com, works fine in Firefox or Safari; only capturing, which needs the extension, is restricted to a Chromium browser.

Mobile and tablet browsers

Extensions, PostSnag included, don't run on any mobile browser, on either iOS or Android, no matter which browser app you use. See "Can I use PostSnag on my phone or in the Facebook app?" for what does and doesn't work on a phone or tablet.

Common questions

Will PostSnag support Firefox or Safari in the future?
There's nothing to announce. Today PostSnag works in Chrome and other Chromium browsers only.

Do I need to switch my default browser to use PostSnag?
No. Install a Chromium browser alongside your usual one, use it for capturing on Facebook, and keep your default browser for everything else. Your PostSnag account works the same no matter which browser you're signed into.

Does PostSnag work the same in Edge or Brave as in Chrome?
Yes. Installation, signing in, and capturing all work the same way. Chrome is simply the browser PostSnag is officially tested against.

Does PostSnag work in Incognito or a private window?
It isn't officially tested there. Chrome disables extensions in Incognito windows by default, so you'd need to turn on "Allow in Incognito" for PostSnag from chrome://extensions if you want to try it, and Facebook may not keep you signed in inside a private window either.

Can I use PostSnag on a Chromebook?
Yes. A Chromebook runs Chrome itself, so PostSnag installs and captures the same way it does on a Chrome desktop or laptop.
